Artist Story: Bre of Hygge Space Co.

Bre is the owner and maker behind Hygge Space Co: A Vancouver-based, feeling-focused decorative brand that offers dried floral arrangements, candles, fragrance sprays—and more! 

What's the story behind the name of your business, Bre? 
Hygge ("hyoo-guh") is a Danish word that has no direct translation to English. It's more than a word—it's a feeling. Hygge is family, friends connection, tradition, coziness, love and presence. My passion for the practice of Hygge was instilled in me by family and my hope is to inspire you to practice hygge with yours. 

What do you want people to feel when they receive or use a piece of your art? 
Happy, cozy, connection, beauty and cheer. 

Tell us about your most proud moment as an artist. 
When Lisa gifted me the opportunity to do the arrangements for her crates, which contributed hugely to my vision for my own brand. 

How do you define success as an artist? 
Passion, honesty and reputation. 

What advice would you give to an aspiring artist?
Just go for it! You'll never know until you know how people will respond to what you create. 

What was your dream job while growing up? 
Being a veterinarian—but I realized as I got older that I couldn't handle seeing animals suffer. 

What mantra do you tell yourself when facing a challenge? 
"I can handle this." 

What in your life are you most grateful for? 
For my family and for being a Canadian.
