What inspired the name for your business?
I wanted it to be something that related to myself as well as my product. Birch trees represent renewal and I had just quit my boring day job and was starting a whole new adventure. Birch Street was the first street I lived on in Vancouver, AND I was creating jewelry from wood! So, Birch Street Studio’s name is both a part of me and a part of what I create.
What is the story behind why you started your business?
I loved creating jewelry but wanted the freedom to create my own designs that meant something both to me and to the person eventually wearing them. This drive to create (and the fact that my day job was making me seriously unhappy) pushed me to take the giant scary leap into what is now Birch Street Studio.
What is the dream that you wish to fund through your business?
Celebrating Christmas in New York is on our bucket list!
How have your grown as a person as a result of your business?
I am overall a much happier person and more optimistic. There are days where I am filled with self-doubt and a fear of failure but I have learned to tell myself that these feelings will pass.
What would you like to say to the person that buys and/or enjoys your art?
This may be a simple purchase for you, but for me it is a dream come true. From the bottom of my heart, Thank You!
Why do you love being a part of Giving Gifts?
Being a part of Giving Gifts is an honour. The store is filled with SO much talent, I feel so lucky to have my pieces share the same space as the other makers.
