Artist Story - Emily of fancypop

What inspired the name of your business?

I wrote out a bunch of words that I liked or that I thought would describe my jewelry, and then I would pair them together until I found one that had a nice ring to it.

What is the story behind why you started your business?
I first started making jewelry in high school. Supplies were really expensive and I realized it would be more economical to start buying in bulk. But then to be able to afford new supplies I had to save up more to purchase in bulk, so I had to start selling off some jewelry so I could afford to create more.
What is the dream that you wish to fund through your business?
It's very boring and practical, but I just want to be able to make a living, and be able to afford a vacation from time to time, and also be able to save for a rainy day as well as for my retirement when I'm old.
What are you most proud of about your business?
That I'm actually doing it! When I decided to pursue it full-time, everyone around me was a bit doubtful, and of course I had a lot of worries too. I've quit many classes and jobs in my lifetime, and fancypop is the one thing that I've never stopped working at, so even though the worrying never stops, I'm proud that I'm still doing it.

How have you grown as a person as a result of your business?
My business has really forced me to tough things out, and to stick with something until I can pick it up. I've always been a quitter when things got difficult, so to stick with the un-fun side of creating things like how to do my taxes, that was really difficult for me.
What difference does your art make in your life, and your family’s life?
I honestly don't know what I'd be doing for a living if not for fancypop. So having art in my life has given me literally everything. I am very fortunate to be able to make a living by creating everyday.
If you could say one thing to the person that buys and/or enjoys your art, what would it be?
Thank you so much! Thank you for supporting my art and my livelihood so I can continue to be creative and make more things!
