Artist Story: Helena Lane Skincare

What inspired the name for your business?
The first name for my business was actually "Organic Lane Skincare" as I was terrified of putting my name on the front of all my packaging, but after a few months of everyone telling me that using my real name looked so much better I went with it, and I'm so pleased I did!

What is the story behind why you started your business?
My journey into natural products, and a fascination with how our skin works, started due to my own battle with chronic eczema in my late teens and early 20s. A swap to natural, plant based skincare was a major factor in healing my skin.

In my previous careers I have been a chef, holistic therapist, retail manager for natural skincare and a trainer in the natural products industry. I have spent the last 10 years working with some of the world’s leaders in natural and organic product Foods Market, UK and Canada. I am now thrilled to put all that I have learned into my own skincare range. I had always dreamed of having my own line and had my philosophy and half the products were made in my head already so decided to go for it.

Born and raised in Oxford, England, I moved to Vancouver, BC in 2009 with my now husband, Charlie, for adventure and change. We now live in Squamish, BC, a lovely small community of active, mindful souls. It is here we have chosen to raise our two children, Alex and Poppy.

I want everyone to really understand the benefits of natural skincare and the negative impact some products can have on the health of our skin. Alongside my products I will endeavor to share my knowledge of this subject that I am so passionate about.

What is the dream that you wish to fund through your business?
My love is really in growing the healing plants that I use. My dream is to grow the flowers and herbals and then distill them to become a local producer of essential oils and hydrosols.

What are you most proud of about your business?
The people I work with. I never thought I would be an employer, providing a livelihood for others. And within that, I am proud that I provide work for other moms that fits in our children's needs.

How have your grown as a person as a result of your business?
I am an introvert and so putting myself out there is generally terrifying. Having my business gives me an opportunity to get myself out there in a context I feel confident about.

What difference does your art make in your life? And your familiy’s life?
My mother was an art teacher, and now that she's retired she has thrown herself back into her own work. My sister has always worked in the arts also. We were always encouraged to be creative as kids so it makes me happy and keeps me grounded to create.

If you could say one thing to the person that buys and/or enjoys your art, what would it be?
Thank you, and every single purchase and customer really makes a difference to me. I appreciate each and every one of you!
