I am a DREAMER, with more than a capital D! I always have been. I love to think about possibilities of what could be. The perfect life never seems that far out of reach for me, at least in my dreams! I used to get in trouble for it when I was a kid, as I'd often tell stories to myself which turned into lies to others. I think I just have a huge imagination for what could be. Some things I am currently dreaming about include:
- The 100 year old house we live in is completely renovated and looks like I stepped into a magazine (or Instagram photo).
- The Giving Gifts & Company store is doing incredibly well, as are Giving Crates and I've launched 3 other complementary businesses too. (I have no lack of ideas).
- The kids are idyllic angels that we can bring anywhere and they constantly have perfect behaviour and love to just sit and listen (or play by themselves) while the grownups talk and enjoy.
- I leave the house every day looking like a model in Vogue (well maybe a slightly healthier version) but it took no effort at all. I just wake-up looking gorgeous and have all the right (ethical) clothing and accessories (handmade) to complete my look.
- I am fit, super fit! I run every day and do yoga every morning. Arm balance poses are no effort at all.
- We vacation on the beach in Hawaii and the jungle of Costa Rica and ski in powder in Whistler whenever we'd like. We are free-spirited world travellers with 3 kids.
Life is a dream!
Not!
And then reality sets in and I'm back where I started. The reality of working so hard and day and night, and day and night, again and again. They cycle of entrepreneurship is never ending. It goes something like this:
This is awesome!
I'm so awesome!
This sucks...
I suck!
This will never work...
Just Try - What is the worst that happens?
This is awesome!
I'm so awesome!
This sucks...
I suck!
For me the way not to get stuck in the frustration of how far my dreams are from reality is to just keep looping through the cycle with the incredible support of like-minded entrepreneurs and great friends. I'm convinced that those of us persistent enough to keep trying and keep trying, despite all the set-backs, will one day achieve our dreams! (Of course, a little good luck and brilliant ideas also helps!) Maybe one day those moments of "This is so awesome" and "I'm so awesome" won't be so brief and they will outweigh (by far) those times when everything sucks. I'm still waiting for that time, but the reality is that each year I get closer and closer. For now, I'll just keep putting one foot in front of the other and keep walking with the dreamers. I hope you will join me and walk (and dream) with me too.
