Giving!

Today was a really great day! I just purchased $800 worth of Barefoot Books that are being donated to charity! I am so grateful to know amazing people that spend a lot of time volunteering and fundraising for wonderful causes. I spend a lot of time on Facebook and most of the time it probably doesn't accomplish much...but last week, a friend, Rhea Lazar, posted to another wonderful friend, Isabelle Somekh, that an organization she volunteers with (National Council of Jewish Women) had fundraised money to buy books for kids. I jumped at the chance to get involved and offered to source the perfect books through Barefoot Books at a discount. We quickly went to work choosing the books and with the $800 we were able to purchase 144 books to donate to babies and children! That works out to an average of $5.55 a book! 

52 of the books are in Spanish and are going to be distributed through the Healthiest Babies Possible Program at Vancouver Coastal Health to children for Christmas. An assortment of Spanish books and bilingual (Spanish/English) books were selected. 

The other 92 books are going to a dear friend, Isabelle Somekh, to donate through the charity she started, Noah's Ark. Jewish Women International runs Noah's Ark and provides car seats and other newborn essentials to families that don't have the financial means to afford it themselves. The baby items are distributed through social workers at hospitals in British Columbia. The baby books we chose are perfect! They are board books with many nursery rhymes and beautiful artwork that the babies (and their parents) will enjoy for many years. 

Isabelle mentioned that Noah's Ark services 150 to 200 families a year. We have bought half the books they need, but I am determined to fundraise enough money to purchase the rest of the books when this supply starts to run out. Every baby deserves beautiful books!!

Today was truly a wonderful day! I can't wait for the books to arrive in 2 weeks, so they can start being distributed to the babies and kids!
