Artist Story: Lisa & Dorthe of Rascal Remedies

Where did the name of your business come from?
Inspired by nature, ignited by imagination and invested in quality, we knew we wanted our 100% natural products specially formulated for children to be fun and capture the hearts and minds of children and parents alike.

Our idea was born with a vision of characters created to remedy common ailments in a fun, creative and educational way. A story about where our characters were born inspired each name and remedy. We created the characters with a talented local designer and as each came to life we immediately knew they looked like little Rascals. Each with a cheeky personality and a fun inspirational story of how the power of plants can make feeling better fun. And so the name Rascal Remedies was born!

What is the story behind why you started your business?

We are two friends with a true love for all things natural and over 20 years experience  combined creating natural products and skin care lines. Having kids ourselves and knowing the amazing benefits of essential oils, we wanted to create a wellness line that would give children the opportunity to try (and enjoy!) natural remedies safely. So, we decided to put our creative forces to work and created our own modern high-quality brand of 100% natural remedies specially formulated for children. We knew during the product development process that we had a winning idea when all our children and friends children fell in love with the scents and characters immediately! 

What dreams do you wish to fund through your business?

Our dream is to share our natural products across Canadian communities and become a partner to various local charities focused on children’s education and creativity. Our dream is to support local art and educational programs with a percentage of Rascal Remedies sales each year.

How have you grown as people as a result of your business?

Starting a business and brand takes courage, hard work and a lot of imagination and determination. We’ve grown as communicators, creators and business women by learning to believe in our idea and to push forward through the difficult times by staying aligned with our vision. It is a daily practice and one we’re dedicated to continuing along this exciting journey.

What are you most proud of about your business?

We’re most proud of the expressions and excitement on children’s faces when they smell and use our products! We’ve received so much amazing feedback from parents and children alike and it brings us such joy to see the smiles that Rascal Remedies bring.

What difference does your art make in your life, and your families' lives?

Our business is an extension of our personal life, loving our job makes us better as a parents, friends and family members.

If you could say one thing to the person who buys and/or enjoys your art, what would it be?
