Artist Story: Joyce of Drink Wicks

Well, I think the name Drink Wicks pretty much sums up what my candles are. 

What is the story behind why you started your business?
My business started as a hobby to just find a way to make use of all the beautiful bottles I've collected throughout the years. I've always had a love for candles so I can't think of a better way to up-cycle the beautiful bottles into something I can reuse over and over again. I also truly believe in giving back, so Drink Wicks gives 20% of proceeds to charity.

So far we have donated to the following:

• Movember
• BC Children's Hospital
• Backpack Buddies
• Canadian Cancer Society 
• Hood to Coast
• Sober October
• Greater Vancouver Food Bank

What is the dream that you wish to fund through your business? 
My dream is to be able to give back as much as I can through my business. 

 

What are you most proud of about your business? 
I am proud to have met so many new friends since I have started my business. Some have become really good friends of mine and help me push my business to succeed.

 

How have you grown as a person as a result of your business? 
I realized it is really hard work to make a business succeed.  It doesn't just happen overnight. From the beginning I knew upcycling bottles into beautiful candle vessels is hard work but the finished product is all worth it.

 

What difference does your art make in your life, and your family’s life? 
I'm a mom of two and have a full time job so making candles really relaxes me. It's something I really enjoy doing.
