International Women's Day 2024

Happy International Women's Day!

We are so grateful to the hundreds of women artists we work with at Giving Gifts! In honour of International Women's Day, we are sponsoring a girl to attend Fire & Flower's Spring Empowerment Camp! Fire & Flower is a charity that provides transformative programs to empower girls in their rite of passage into young adulthood. We LOVE the difference they make in the lives of young girls and would LOVE YOUR HELP to sponsor a girl to attend camp again this year. We sponsor a girl every year in honour of International Women's Day!

This may be the hardest time in all of history to be a young woman. Movies, music videos and magazines mostly only show skinny women which is not how many of us actually look. So much happens on Snapchat, Instagram and other social media. You might have questions about how to fit in and belong and no one to really ask.

It can be hard to feel good about yourself or know what to do.

Before our modern world, girls would do something special called a rite of passage about becoming young women. They would get to spend time with other women and learn about being a woman. All girls would know about this their whole childhood and look forward to this special time (and be a bit nervous at the same time because it’s a big deal growing up!).

In Fire & Flower programs girls meet other girls and form new friendships. It's a space where girls can be themselves and share whatever is on their mind. They can be real and honest. They can be silly or serious.
