Where did the name of your business come from?
My business was originally Victoria Senges Design Co. and was only a freelance design company. When I decided to create my own line of stationery, I created my own online shop as a division of Victoria Senges Design Co. I decided to play on the first letter in my name, and V SHOP was born!
What is the story behind why you started your business?
My mom was undergoing treatment during her fourth cancer diagnosis and there were various songs and quotes that helped her during her journey. I decided to create 10 art prints that reflected those sayings to help lift her spirits. Shortly after, I launched them online to raise partial funds for cancer research. A portion of all proceeds go to The Canadian Cancer Society. It wasn’t long before I expanded my line by creating some cute notepads (because I love all things paper) and the rest is history!
What are you most proud of about your business?
I am most proud of raising funds for cancer research, and of creating something that is my own, that reflects my style, and that people have responded to. It’s scary to put something out there and not know if people will like it. But the response has been great and I can’t wait to achieve more of my goals.
How have you grown as a person as a result of your business?
I have grown in confidence in my product and my business. I have also grown in different areas of operating a business such as operating finances, managing inventory, and sales.
What difference does your art make in your life, and your family’s life?
Art is a creative release for me. It allows me to share my own style and passions. For my family, art has been a reminder that in the darkest times, there is light. In the stressful times, there is peace. And in the times of fear, there is hope.
