Artist Story - Amelia of Nana + Livy

What inspired the name of your business?
Nana+Livy Handmade Bath Treats was named after my two daughters Natalia and Olivianne. They are the sole reasons why I started and continued my business.

What is the story behind why you started your business?
The concept of Nana+Livy started out as a mere interest in soapmaking during my long and sometimes challenging maternity leave in 2017. Quickly, my passion for soapmaking has grown when I became fascinated with the discovery that healthy food ingredients can be transformed into bath and body products. Subsequently, I turned this hobby into a small business and started making food-based bath and body products.

What is the dream that you wish to fund through your business?
My ultimate dream goal is to create wholesome and beneficial products in each of the bath and body category and to have a small little store of my own brand. This store must have an “open kitchen” so customers can see with their own eyes how their bath treats are made.

What are you most proud of about your business?
I am proud of the ingredients I have carefully selected to formulate each bath treat. Each ingredient I use is there for a nutritious reason. On top of that, I’m also proud of the craftsmanship we stand for. From production to packaging, everything is handmade.

How have you grown as a person as a result of your business?
I have learned a great deal in running this one-person business. I am the entrepreneur, the soapmaker, the designer, the website builder, the photographer, the social-media person etc. I enjoy all the roles I’ve played in this business and I am definitely growing along with my business as a person!

What difference does your art make in your life, and your family’s life?
After getting into this handmade business, my family and I have become more conscious of what we are purchasing in a commercial store. We would read labels to make sure what we are eating or what we are putting on our skin are actually beneficial. We also learned to appreciate handmade products more andwould buy local whenever we can.

If you could say one thing to the person that buys and/or enjoys your art, what would it be?
Try not to eat them! I know they are food-based and smell delicious, but they are for your skin instead. :)
