The name Konisa is a combination of words derived from the names of my personal mentors, but it also happens to mean "Possibilities" in Japanese and Chinese. It was the perfect name for my business.
What is the story behind why you started your business?
The story of Konisa began after I graduated from Industrial Design. After a year of focusing on launching my grad project into production, I shifted my focus to working on what I really wanted to do: create handmade local wood products, sustainable projects and authentic design innovations. From there, I was able to develop new products and bring them to fruition.
What is the dream that you wish to fund through your business?
One dream for Konisa is to set up a small shop in Vancouver and sell our creations to local city folks, and have small worldwide distribution.
What are you most proud of about your business?
I can proudly say that my business is one of the most unique companies in Vancouver. We center our philosophy around woodworking, modern design and innovation.
How have you grown as a person as a result of your business?
Being a business owner make me appreciate how much care and effort that other businesses, makers and entrepreneurs put forth into creativity, inspiration and authenticity. As a result, I am a lot bolder and more patient when selling products and promoting my company.
What difference does your art make in your life, and your family’s life?
Creating and promoting art in a entrepreneurial way has inspired my friends and family to see that it is a fun and viable way to create a business in the process. It is invigorating and keeps me motivated every day.
Why do you love being a part of Giving Gifts?
Giving Gifts has been a great place for Konisa to learn and explore being a business owner. Giving Gifts' support has helped me propel my business!

No item is exactly the same due to the natural variation in the wood. The cardholders and passport holders make great gifts to congratulate new jobs, graduation, bon voyage...we invite you to come by and see them for yourself, or there are a few examples online.
